I have thought on this overnight
I think this is a simple topic, made more complex by people trying to cheery pick points to influence opinions.
Lets be clear about the key player motivations here,
Caravan
park owners want to make more money, end of story, they are not there to supply tourist
infrastructure for the good of mankind, they don’t know you, there not your best mate (at least not
mine), they don’t come to town wanting to employ lots of people, if they could avoid it they wouldn’t employ anyone, their a business, it’s just the MONEY.
Town / shire councils on the other hand have to try (or be seen to try) to promote prosperity in the whole town. If that means supplying bait to get people in then so be it. Its all about PROGRESS.
Travelers, want to go
forth and participate in the lifestyle they enjoy, in or out of van parks, which ever is their want. It’s about the Freedom of CHOICE.
So where’s the conflict? Its when one group for what ever their motivation is; (MONEY PROGRESS or CHOICE) want to change the rules to be more in their favor, at the expense of the others. All the real or perceived reasons put forward in support of their arguments is Spin.
Landy, I really wonder if you have any personal interest in this when you seem to demean travelers for wanting “hand outs” and “taking out bat and ball and going home”. I would have thought it was VERY clear, were the customer nothing more and nothing less, all the talk in the world can’t and will not change our rights to spend our money where we want, those are the only real rules and all the emotive references to $100k rigs and self interests will not change that.
