Comment: The Calvert Scientific and Exploring Expedition of 1896

Excellent information Mick. Looks like there is a lot that we did not learn inschool. They spent too much time of the stuff from overseas and the eastern states. Still they did not really have a lot of time.

If I ever get the chnmace I think I will get the book and look at a drive that way. But with my "problem" it may not happen.

A good read

Thanks

Phil

There are so many "minor" explorers that hisstory has glossed over lightly. Their feats were often no less daring and incredible than some of the better known explorers. I mentioned Richard Thilwell Maurice the other day in my most recent Anne Beadell Hwy blogs who managed to complete a simlar trip to this only taking in Ayres Rock and crossing the country that turned Giles back on more than one occassion. He recorded much of early abroiginal life in these areas as well as many of the native wells we and later explorers took for granted. Some amazing feats but who knows of him? A shame indeed.
''We knew from the experience of well-known travelers that the
trip would doubtless be attended with much hardship.''
