Hi all,
I've narrowed it down to these 2 vehicles (brand new).
GU Patrol 4.2TD approx $59990 or
LC100 Standard 4.2 approx $51000 with aftermarket Turbo ($????).

I've got a boat (5.45m Fibreglass) that I'll be towing to the boat ramp and will be doing some serious offroad as well.

What would you go for and why ??

ps. I hear theres an update patrol coming in August, anyone else hear about this?
if yes, will an update 4.2TD engine be available?

I purchased the 100 LC Standard Wagon and the only regret was that I didnt buy one a long time ago. From what I have read I would not fit an aftermarket turbo, the motor is not designed for the extra stress caused by a turbo. Why not buy the V8 cruiser for about $56,000 drive away? Perfect for towing.

Great choices John .The only problem I see is that on the LC 105 series you will lose your warranty for the whole vehicle for fitting the turbo. A better option would be to pickup a 105 at the ex govt auction. They are 2-3yo have about 50-80k on the clock and go for 30-$35000.That would give you plenty of spare cash for mods that you will need for the serious offroad stuff.
Othewise I would get the Patrol and its new car warranty and a great 4x4.
Im sure a few of us wish we had to make tough choices like this ;0)

So spend an extra $1000's on the Cruiser, then still have to put a turbo on it to be happy??

Then also lose your warranty..

Sounds like a plan to me.

Drive both and see what you think.

there is no update for the TD42 planned.

Hi JohnZA
Why not weight up between a new Troopie & the 4.2TD Patrol. Troopie is harder then the LC108 off road & the latest Troopie comes with a Turbo! Read something about it in the recent Overlander mag.
Diff lock & snorkel could be factory standard if so desired. Plus 2WD low range for backing boat up steep driveway.
Cheers
Wil

I had the same choice to make in July 03 and went for the Nissan. I had only owned Toyotas until then. 81 Hilux, 85 4runner, 60 series petrol cruiser, 80 series diesel cruiser (which I'd supercharged for a little extra grunt, rooom-a-zoom). The Nissan is far more civilised on road and for long distance touring k's, lets me arrive in a better condition than my cruiser did. The Nissan also has a few more creature comforts and a higher level of NVH dampening. I also decided that the resale value, (a few years down the line I know), of the mid spec Nissan would be better than the base model cruiser.

I use my Patrol for towing a van to a campsite then getting it dirty and unfortunately scratched. It's nearly as good off-road as my cruiser was, both have aftermarket suspension and AT's, the main difference being the higher ratio low range and the boost coming on at about 1600rpm rather than being there from idle with the supercharger.

I'm happy with my decision and I'm sure that you'll be happy with yours. They are both good vehicles.

Cheers,

Hilly
