Hi Dave, The Old Ghan Railway route is fairly popular so expect to see a few cars and the National Parks campground at Chambers Pillars gets quite crowded so if you go there plan to get there around 2ish. The road is generally good but can be quite corrugated (something you get used to out there). Read a little of the history before you go and you will find the Old Ghan route
well worth the effort.
If you don't go to Dalhousie (or even if you do)
camping at Eringa
waterhole (no facilities) is quite special and when we were there in July 2010 there were only a few other people camped in what is a fairly large area.
If you take it easy then you should have little trouble on the roads unless it rains and then all the dirt roads are closed. Provided you lower your tyre pressures accordingly (and you should have lowered them for the corrugations anyway including the trailer) a little rain will be OK but a lot of rain will generally make the roads impassable and you might have to
camp a couple of days until the road dries up a bit. You can't predict the weather that
well but don't let it deter you.
Cheers
