Am planning a trip from Alice Springs to Marble Bar along the Gary Junction Road am interested in finding out if anyone has done this trip and what is the road like?

I know I need permits and they have been applied for. Really need to know if road is suitable for a off-road van.

Thanks
Gren

Gren,
When are you planning to be out there???
We (wife & self, + in-laws, 2 vehicles both towing camper trailers) are planning to be on the same rd (via Sandy Blight Junction Rd.) in early May...
We too are interested in the condition of the road, but we'll find out soon enough, I guess...

No , haven,t been on the Junction rd , but have been on Gary Hwy , Gunbarrel and Heather Hwy ( that was a real bone rattler ) , i suspect it will be very much the same and again , i woun,t tow any sort of van out there . I,ll be doing the David Carnegie Rd , Gary Hwy and Talawana track this June , so , im no stranger to the roads out there and i woun,t tow any van out there . So saying , the Jenkins track and the Wapet rds an,t to bad , it,s the Junction rd i,d be worryed about . Remeber , it was under water a couple of year,s ago and Kiwirrkurra was evactuated for some time as they couldn,t get supply,s in

I was talking to the people at Kunawarritji yesterday and they said about one car a week is coming through that way. I'll be doing the trip in a few weeks so I can let you know when I get back (if) on Anzac Day.

Lets face it, you can take an adequately built trailer anywhere a car can go provided you travel slowly and don't overload.

Thanks Ed C. I hope to be in Alice in about 1 to 2 weeks. Also thanks to Bod and Errol.

Another question where do you go to get reliable information on road conditions at the present time?

My Off-Road is capable of going anywhere I do as long as the track is not too wet or washed out.

Won't go this road unless I get all information I need, will use alternative
Tamini Road.

Thanks Again for all your input

Gren

You can ring the communities on the road direct and ask them about conditions. The Kunawarritji number is on the Hema map. I have the Kiwirrkurra number elsewhere if you need it.
