Nice write-up but I'm a little concerned about your sat phone problems. Which provider are you using?

Thanks - it wasn't really a 'problem' as such. My phone is a Thuraya which uses a single geosynchronous satellite facing the north west, fairly low on the horizon. Where we were located the satellite was effectively being blocked by the range. I believe it is not unusual for all sat phones to have issues with cliffs, clouds and trees. Luckily in this instance we had a telstra landline! For a real emergency we could have used our PLB. We could connect with Toyota however the voice was dropping out. Next time I'd go with
