This is some great trip going on and looks cool to me. As for the matter with phone why not go for a 3G service,for more hassle free network.

Thanks for that. I might have not understood your comment. We use a 3G Telstra Country phone which does not have full coverage around rural Oz. I think these are glorified radios using lots of cellular radio towers or radio antennae. 3G is a version of this using the same method. The sat phone has full coverage by communicating directly with single or multiple satellites and is not 3G. I think it is possible to buy a #G/Sat phone combining the two technologies although each is totally separate technology. I think this is right, if you think differently let me know?
