Comment: 24 Hours in a 1960's Stock Camp - Barkly Tablelands Part III

Hi Bob, I remember the Bedford 300 cu in, Dad had one in a J5 which was a 5 tonner but we regularly carried 7 ton on it as it had heavy duty beefed up springs on the rear axle, we only had to cut back when the scalies were around. It had a 4 speed box with a two speed diff and was good for 50 mph with 7 ton on board. It came with the business Dad bought, Flinders Transport in Wyndham in 1969 from Bill Flinders Widow Aunty Jo after his death, the business came with a J2 Bedford, Thames Trader single axle 32 ft semi and a Ford K700 8 tonner (which was the Australian release of the Thames Trader, early days of badge engineering), I have a couple of photos of the J5 somewhere pity I cannot put them on this reply.

Rob,

Was in Kimberly about that time, and think it may have been Flinders Transport that used to bring freight out to the station. They bought a new Bedford K series, with diesel engine & 10 speed Roadranger, that used to come out in early '70's.

Thanks for the trip into the past,

Bob.
