Hi Mick,
it's another of your good reads. Thank you
One of our camps along the
Gary Junction Road was near your axle repair
camp.
We camped in an area that had been used by road workers some time ago. It was at the foot of some hills, 10 km west of the border, across from a
Telstra tower.
That road is one of my favourite drives. We had a grader crew about 50 km west of the border that had worked from Jupiter
Well east, and another pair about 20km west of Jupiter
Well. That had the road in pretty good condition.
We were heading west, so we filled up at Alice (1.66/l), then topped up at
Papunya ($2.16/l),
Kiwirrkurra ($2.80/l) and Kanawarriji ($3.40/l). That gave us plenty of fuel to get to Sandfire RH after the Kidson Track (Hwy) and 80 Mile Beach.
Fantastic part of the World. I want to poke arouind the back of
Lake Mackay, from
Kiwirrkurra to Balgo next time.
Hoo roo,
Steve
