More on dropping dust. Fine dust gathers on the inside of the wheel rims and centrifugal force holds it there. Quite a bit of it can build up. When the truck stops, most of it drops off and the rest will fall off as the truck moves off again. When you have a triple road train, this can mount up to quite a bit of dust.
It is a gift that keeps on giving too, as when other vehicles drive through it, it stirs up again! The dust is almost always red too.
Just plain good manners to drop dust at the start of the bitumen, if not on the edge of town.
