Thank you for your comments everyone. It is indeed an interesting topic and will be forever ongoing. However I would like to comment further. The thought of mining or rather the destruction of land through mining dearly breaks my heart however I do understand the need of mining to the lesser degree for the economical sustainability. My desire is really to ignorantly hide the fact that we do rather than blatantly expose it. More from a touristy point of view. I know there are some tourists who would travel out particularly to see the mines and therefore would not hesitate to travel where ever it may be. The Griffin
mine in particular never used to be exposed from the road edge but alas now it is. And that's more of my point. I think there should be some kind of environmental law that prevents mining up to a certain distance from a main road and away from road view.
Clearly though a part of me wished it lived in the early days where there was more bush but I am here to enjoy today. Instead I look at Fred McCubbin's paintings and others alike to enjoy the bush of yesteryear.
