Comment: Talawana Tales - West to Midway Well, Capricorn Roadhouse (Well 23) and

Gidday Mick, I can emphasise with you about the dirty fuel. In 84 when I was living in Tom Price I went from Newman out to CSR and my 44 of diesel I believe was the dregs drained out of "empty's" as when I got out on the great northern Hi-way the other side of Halls Creek I was having filter blockages. Got to Wyndham and dad's workshop and drained the tank and got a lot of fine rust and crud out of my tank. The old drums would rust and it looked like very fine black sand. I worked for Shell at the depot in Tom Price in those days so I knew what comes out of old drums, I used to drain diesel drums that came back and let it sit for a long time and then take off the top.
I like reading your blogs, it stirs the desire to get back there, I may head down the CSR next year on my long service leave. I would like to go to Mulan, which I think is the old Lake Gregory home-stead that I visited several times in 73 with Dad when we were carting fuel out past Weriado Well for Ray Geo doing a siesmic survey.
Cheers

It's funny you mention that Rob but I got a load of dirty fuel in Newman in 84-85. Thankfully it was the simple in-line filters and I carried three or four of them so was able to get through until I could drain the tank further north. I hate playing around with super as it was back then. A damn site more unforgiving than diesel.

Cheers Mick
