Comment: Burton’s – Waves, beaches and tin horses – Part 6 "Oh what a feeling!"

You're right Veight...got lazy and bogged down in work...must write up the next leg down to Karijini and the inland trip back to Perth...you have sparked a kernel of motivation...p.s. I still think the 200 series is still a fantastic modern 4WD. All of these problems are not of the 200's making but from the fuel. I think there are many things that could be improved from a design and build perspective, however from the current crop of options the 200 still seems to be to be the best option. I had no desire to go rustic, i'e' old Patrol, troopy or down the smaller path of Prado or Hilux, utility etc. If you have a family and want some luxury when travelling long distances on rough roads the 200 is the only viable option (IMHO). The new Nissan looks like a joke with a 5.7 litre V8 petrol and is even bigger than the 200 series. Not only that, on most versions it is not possible to change shockies or upgrade suspension which means no lift! So after 100,000 km of very harsh roads from Gunbarrel to Cape York to Tassie I'm still a fan of the 200 acknowledging that Toyota could have done many things better... high on the list would be improving the knowledge and customer service of the dealer network....
