Comment: Assessing and Addressing Driver Risk

Thanks for your comments and advise re spectacles. I worked for a very large US based organisation that did some MRI scan studies into brain function while talking on phones, radios, and to passengers. When talking on a phone, even hands free the part of the brain used to detect hazards (the visual cortex) is lit up like a christmas tree, suggesting that part of the brain is being heavily used for some kind of visual processing even though you can't see the person. The same study found that talking on a radio did not have the same affect. Nobody yet knows why. Though there are theories re duplex versus simplex conversations in which you can't see the other party... one day we may know more.
