Comment: My Raw Food Experiences (Michelle)

Thanks Michelle...a very interesting read.
I try to ensure we have a 'healthy' diet...low in saturated fats, heart smart and also low in sugar.....almost all foods prepared from scratch etc but what you have written has made me realise that slowly and gradually we have been allowing more of the unhealthy foods back (the excuse is.....easier when travelling) and bigger portions of the healthy( 85% Lindt choc is a particular culprit)! We had a major health scare when my husband had to have sudden open heart surgery almost 10 years ago and it was a major wake up call. Both of us lost close to 10 kgs but my weight is starting to creep back up despite almost daily 7km walks....
Your blog has prompted me to re assess.... so thanks!
Looking forward to hearing more.

cheers Heather

Hi Heather, a lot more research on fats has been done over the past 18mths and I am now deliberately eating more fats, especially plant-based saturated fats. Yes still avoid the animal-based saturated fats but DO EAT avocado, flax seed oil (cold in salad dressing) and swap all your cooking oil to unrefined virgin cold-pressed COCONUT OIL. Here is a good link for more info http://cleancuisineandmore.com/is-the-saturated-fat-in-coconut-harmful/ I've got some more blogs about food and nutrition on our TriathlonOz site too so pop over there if you like. Also, don't worry about the chocolate the 85% dark Lindt is the best choice out there and there is loads of research about the positive benefits of raw chocolate (cacao) and your one is near-enough to not be the enemy at all. Many raw foodists eat chocolate deliberately and advocate eating it regularly (cacao is awesome - go get some and make your own chocolate treats for camping).
