Glad you're OK,
What type and brand of van and how old?
I wonder if this area of our van chassis is something we should all pay more attention to by regular inspection? Never thought about it myself. I guess that if this happened at speed it could cause a major situation.
One good thing about it is that it is relatively easy to rectify.

2000 Windsor Statesman Royale. The firm that repaired were surprised the steel was only 3mm thick and they replaced it with 6mm. We were travelling at between 80 - 85kph, limit was 100k. Everybody who stopped and they were all locals commented about that particular bump in the road. One of them had hit it when travelling at speed and hurt his back badly. He was still having trouble walking.
