Comment: New tyres for the biglap

H iShelly
I'm sure you will enjoy the trip, I had a set of cooper S/T's on the nissan Navara had 85,000 on them when I sold it no issues at all not 1 puncture although they were a little slippery on the bitumen in the wet. I then had a set of Cooper STT's on the Landrover with 45,000 on them they are about half worn and have been great no punctures great grip even on the bitumen in the wet secret is to rotate them regularly. I have now purchased a 76 series landcruiser for towing the heavier camper and the first thing I'm doing is fitting a set of the new S/T Maxes before the kimberly trip in July, being truckdriver for 30 years I understand the benefits of looking after your tyres regarding pressures and rotation and have heard good and bad reports about most tyre brands I really think it is more about how you manage them.
I once attended a tyre seminar run by Bandag a major supplier of retreads to the trucking industry and you would be surprised how running your tyres 5 psi underinflated at normal highway speeds incresed the operating temperature inside the tyre and you only need a 5 degree increase in tyre temp before the rubber compound in the tyre starts to breakdown, so being anal about the correct tyre pressure can save you a lot of problems ( that one is for my wife)
