I guess I also didn't properly address your question why we favour swags over 1 tent for all.
We feel the swags are the least hassle, most space conserving option for a family of 4 with no trailer and only roof rack space for storage.
We also like the sleeping out under the stars feeling you get inside the swag - you feel closer to nature and more intune with your surroundings and more likely to wake up before sunrise. We tend to favour desert locations which suit swags and we tend to travel solo so privacy is rarely an issue for us to factor in.
If have access to huts, cabins or want to use your tent, you can and still have all your bedding - so they are versatile.
They don't flap when its windy. You don't need to worry about it blowing down, or pegs coming out, or pegs going into hard ground - ours are self supporting.
Swags are very much warmer than sleeping in tents. Absolutely!
No fusshing with airbeds, bulky heavy stretchers, sleeping bags etc.
Hope this helps. Just our perspective.
