What an adventure! And yes, the turn off to Mt Augustus IS 130 kms from Ashburton Downs. It is then 146 kms through Pingandy and Dooley Downs to Mt Augustus on what is mostly an OK road - but narrow and a bit rough in parts.
BTW, the problem with losing what you have written when you type directly into a blog on the internet can be overcome if you use a program such as WordPad, save it frequently and then copy and paste to the blog. It is quick and if it crashes, you still have the original.
Keep posting - I am very much enjoying your writings
Cheers

Thanks for the helpful hints, Andrew. I now realize my first mistake. I was counting on the trip meter and forgot about the 55 k to Ashburton Downs! Doh! I don’t know when you travelled down the road but the general consensus of everyone at Mt Augustus was that it is a terrible road. The camper trailer that had something go wrong with the
wheels was an off roader – but you may have travelled worse roads than I have.
I did suss out some time ago that by writing the blog in Word and then copying and pasting it to the website is a more effective and less fraught means of posting but this time the Windows update defeated me, not for the first time. Perhaps I should set the automatic save to a different setting.
I’m glad you’re enjoying the
blogs. I’ve been a bit remiss of late but hope to rectify that soon. Cheers
Carole
