Thanks for the reply. Firstly, the people at
Tom Price Tourist Centre were remiss about the 3 1/2 hours. When we were checking on the condition of the Bingandy Road in late-ish July (it had been closed recently), they told us TP to MtA was 8 hours. We also spoke to someone who had recently travelled the route and he reported all OK, although he had nearly taken out his front axle hitting a wash away. I was more concerned about the occasional washout on the
Well 12 to Mininer TO section of the Ashburton Downs Road as they were hard to see and the good condition of the road lulled one into a false sense of optimism. As to the Bingandy Road, we found the first section narrow and a bit rough but not excessively so - it was just the frequent slowing down and getting steam up again out of the dips and
creek crossings! There was quite a bit of traffic on the road, especially mid morning when we met a convoy of 6 vans heading out of Mt A, all travelling like the clappers and in each others dust - unbelievable what effect of peer pressure and mob behaviour can do to some people :-) I could
well imagine them ending up with some damage, particularly if they hadn't dropped their tyre pressures.
It is a pity you got a bit stressed, as you would not have enjoyed it as much. We thought the country before the Bingandy TO was very attractive.
Cheers
Andrew
