My wife and visited the Cowra Japanese Garden in winter 2006 - a bit too early for the spring flowers but fantastic none the less. Take the time to learn about the design of the garden. The eminent Japanese landscape architect who designed it became an honourary citizen of Cowra and deservedly so. Cowra has other attractions of course. It was the scene of a suicidal mass break-out of Japanese POWs during World War II, which is very well documented on the site. The Japanese cemetery is also well worth a visit, with its trees planted by the Crown Prince of Japan and other members of the Japanese royal family. Most of the Japanese military personnel who died on Australian soil during WWII were interred here.
