Hi Carole. You will enjoy Womad, its a great event. Hope you have booked a van site - sorry I cant offer anything as we are in the process of selling our house, but I do hope we can catch up for a chat.
I strongly recommend you do not try the
Oodnadatta Track in early March - last summer at that time in
Oodnadatta they could not serve petrol for a week as it was 55deg and it evaporated before it got into the
tank..... The 'TracK' itself is quite do-able in your vehicle, but you need to go late April-October to be comfortable and safe.
As an alternative for that time of year I suggest you do
Yorke and lower Eyre Peninsulars (esp Pt Lincoln/
Coffin Bay), then say
Robe and right along the Great Ocean Road. You can email me anytime for specific info at dalb7@bigpond.com
Cheers, Dalb

Hi Dalb, thank you for the information about the
Oodnadatta Track at that time of the year. 55 deg? I don't think it gets that hot in Djibouti! Not for me, then. I did go down to the Eyre Peninsula a week or so ago, and loved it. I only called in at
Venus Bay and
Coffin Bay on the way to
Port Lincoln, where I stayed overnight. I received lots of good tips about where to stay on the Spencer Gulf side but didn't see any of them. I spotted the ferry at
Lucky Bay and took a shortcut to
Adelaide.
I've booked an ensuite site at the Levi
Park Caravan
Park on the understanding that there is a bus that goes past the Womad venue.
I missed the Coorong because I wanted to see Nhill. So I think the plan now is to drive from
Melbourne to
Apollo Bay,
Portland,
Kingston SE and then to
Adelaide. After Womad I'll go back to the Eyre Peninsula and take a more leisurely trip, down one side and up the other.
I have received confirmation from my friend in Moldova that a trip to Russia is still on, so Womad and the Eyre Peninsula are definite. I'll have a look at the
Yorke Peninsula and I'd also like to go to
Kangaroo Island. I think 4 - 6 weeks should enable me to cover them all without rushing. I've been along the GOR twice now but haven't really explored it, hence the stay at
Apollo Bay. I'll definitely be in touch before I leave
Launceston to apprise you of my plans. I'd love to catch up for a coffee and a chat.
I hope the house selling goes smoothly.
55 deg? I'll be thinking about that one for a while :-)!
Cheers
Carole
