Great stuff Alan,
Astronomy is certainly a very interesting subject. I must admit I still look at the stars to give me an idea of south.
Your very informative blog brought back memories of my geodetic survey days, standing out there on a crisp clear night with the theodolite at the ready and the stop watches all synchronized to the time signal transmitted on the radio hoping like hell I hadn't stuffed up my star prediction calculations.
I recall the time signal announcements "This is VNG
Lyndhurst, Victoria, Australia on 4.5, 7.5 or 12 MHz. VNG is a standard frequency and time signal service of the Australian Telecommunications Commission. This is VNG
Lyndhurst, Victoria, Australia on 4.5, 7.5 or 12 MHz."
Thanks for your blog
