Roof tent only - don't need the type that comes right to the ground. Can anyone suggest where we could hire (or buy a cheap 2nd hand) roof tent, to sleep in on top of Nissan Patrol. Need for a couple of weeks only. We don't have a roof rack, so would need it to come with roof rack. We are in South West of WA.

Hi Motherhen This has been in the Quokka for AGES. (might beat them down a bit?)

CAR TOPPER Kenlow, canvas, roof top, with matt, zip dr, 2 zip windows, flywire, 4150 x 1250 W x 1m H, suit 4WD or VW Kombi, folds flat $400. Knwk. 9459-8989

I talked to them once, it has room for 4. Might be 2 doubles?
Cheers,
Wayne

motherhen ,the one wayne mentioned is 4 metres long, however it will sleep 4.The problem I found when I looked at it is that is can not be folded up,it is 4 metres long,as long as a normal 4wd.
I also would like to hire one for 2 weeks for the great vic desert in june.
Sorry I cannot help with your initial enquiry.

If you are only looking at a couple of weeks, consider just doing the swag, or igloo tent thing. Rooftop tents are okay, but not what they're cracked up to be. Once you are set up.... you can't move the vehicle. Also.. you're stuck camping where the vehicle is instead of setting up in the best spot that might not match the parking option. I've got a rooftop tent which I now have on the trailer from experience. Cheers
