Planning a trip in August starting Wagga,
Tibooburra,Haddons Cnr,Channel Country,
Lawn Hill then the top road to
Roper River,
Mataranka and
home.
Only have 4 weeks but want to visit the coast at either Hells
Gate or
Wollogorang for a spot of fishing/camping. Has anybody been to both ?. Which is best?
Also Kingfisher
Camp, is it essential to book?
Only 1 vehicle with Tvan and itinery is flexible but still only 4 weeks - long way but what the heck I'm really looking forward to it.

Bob,
Did most of that trip July / August last year. You may
well find some good info on this site if you do a search - I think I may have put down some info as
well, from memory. We only went as far West as
Wollogorang and spent 10 days on
the beach. Absolutely sublime. Towed in a little tinnie. Great beach, fishing and camping. Only 3/4 other vehicles at peak of season - great stuff. I'm pretty sure this is your only access to the coast without traversing an "off limits" track behind the Hell's
Gate Roadhouse. The track is on
Wollogorang Station property and pretty arduous and not for the general public. This is what the owner of Hell's
Gate told us.
Can't go past
Wollogorang! Stay the
Tully Inlet (West) end of
the beach. Much nicer than Massacre Inlet.
Tibooburra,
Lawn Hill etc. have huge amounts of info available about them so I'm sure you'll have no trouble getting up to date info.
Cheers
Mike.

Thanks Mike,
Just the sort of info I need, Looks like
Tully is the go. Can only fish from shore but don't want to become croc bait? Want to experience as much as we can.
Will try for 1/2 day charter at Boroloola or
Roper River if available.
Many thanks

Bob,
Boulia CVP on the river is
well worth a stop over on your way to
Lawn Hill where Adels Grove is a top spot to
camp, especially if your going to be there for a few days, good showers etc. get a spot down on the creek, nice and cool there. Have not been accross the top yet so cant comment there.

Thanks for your recommendation. I believe
Boulia will work in
well as a stopover point.
Visited
Lawn Hill a couple of years ago (by air from
Karumba) and landed at Adels Grove,
well worth a second visit
Happy travelling

We did it last year too,
Tully inlet tops, you will have to book at Adel's grove or
Lawn Hill NP, Adel's better . We went via Kingfisher on the way to
Tully & it looked nice & not crowded nice facilitys. We didn't make it to Roper or
Mataranka as originaly planned as time ran out so we came
home via
Cape Crawford & Barkley. Costs $30.00 a night at
Tully but worth it.

Thanks Bob & Lex
I'm convinced.
Tully inlet sounds just right. Adels Grove is the only place Im prepared to book ahead though fixing a date won't be easy. The rest we will play by ear and I wont be suprised if we also run out of time.
Will need to re-assess plans when we get to
Borroloola.
Originally planned to visit Bourketown but the Kingfisher option sounds too good to miss.
So much to see, so much to do, so little time.
Cheers, Happy travelling
