My daughter has a cheapo version of the
Southern Cross Pole Tent (Aussie Disposals). Easy to set up. She also has the side pole kit which does away with the centre pole. Great bit of gear. She sleeps on a self inflating mattress. Packs away easily and is very flat. Only thing that could be a minor issue is that you need to peg the corners down to set it up. Could be a problem if you want to set up overnight at a roadhouse or roadside stop that has gravel or hard ground. Otherwise really good.
Don't know much about the TVan's but they certainly look robust and go anywhere.

And for sure, no one thing will ever quite fit the bill completely. Cheers, Baz
