unfortunately it is no longer a challenging track ,but mostly a mining road.
went from Punmu to eighty mile beach in one day.
Dont get me wrong the country is very beautifull ,but very open and flat

Garri, did you stop and smell the roses along the way? Plenty to see and explore.

Cheers

Hi Mick

it was your video that inspired me to do the kidson, but that was 2009

I did it in 2013
the first 100 k's from punmu end or so was like your video
but then we hit a big graded rd with mining signs everywhere.
the road was like this right to the end ,we only passed one tanker
who we met later and he said the mining was shuting down,
but this leaves a large rd ,quite straight so it will become corrugated
,as we could do 70 -90 most of the time .Most of the side tracks were not visible.
I wished i did it before the mining got there.
If you wants some photos let me know .i cant post them- ghosrfall1@bigpond.com
cheers Gary

ps this year in aug--
Perth to
anne beadel hwy to Hanns track to connie sue hwy north to Warburton rd to sandy blight junction rd
to gary junction rd to ruddal river n.p and anthill track to skull springs.

Garri, after drooling over maps of Oz for many years, being called by that remote track, we finally went there in 2004. We left the bitumen at Marla SA, west across the top of SA, SGs corner, then the SBJT, turning left onto the Desert Rd, crossing the CSR at Well 33, then on to the coast along the Kidson. I'll never forget the first glimpses of the Indian Ocean after all that desert. We drove onto 80 Mile Beach and hit the water for a swim.

The Kidson was a great drive. No other vehicles encountered. Lots of washouts and long sandy sections. Plenty of shrubs encroaching onto the track.

Last year we were back that way but instead of following the Kidson to the coast, we headed through Punmu and on to Telfer, then south to Rudall River, Newman, Kal and home via the trans track and the Eyre Hwy.

Like you, I'm saddened by the fact that the miners have got in and destroyed yet another remote part of Oz. Luckily for me, I've got to see most of it in between the original opening of the tracks (thanks Len), and the conversion to wide dirt freeways.

Bob
