Hi all

Thanks to all that responded to my previous thread about the Oodnadatta track, some wanted an update of the road conditions.

We have just completed it and added the Old Ghan tracks as well.

The conditions on the Oodnadatta were varied but generally very good, BUT the old Ghan (from Finke to intersection main road) was another story, corrugated and very, very sandy making the going slow and a bit of a strain on the poor Challenger that did not like the combination of towing 2.2 ton van in thick fine sand.

Cheers

Rob

Hi Rob, It sounds like you drove the Finke Desert Race track which follows alongside the railway line. We drove on the actual track where there was no sand, just corrugations.

Hi Mikee5
We were on the right track. There is a big difference between both in width and difficulty. This time on the main track there was a lot of sand on it.

Hi wholehog
Yes we put the tyres down to mid 20 on the car and mid 30 on the van.

We did the Old Ghan over easter in a Prado towing a Tvan and found the sand thick to! How did you go on Fuel? We ended up at around 21L per 100km
