We are keen to cross the Simpson desert and were after some information on which direction from Melb we should follow. Has anyone ideas on where we could store a 17 ft caravan, complete the crossing and then return to collect it? We have a Prado with a tent and all the other stuff you need for the trip thanks johno

We stored ours at the Birdsville Caravan park last year for $5 a day. Had to do a double Simpson crossing to come back and pick it up.

Johno,

We did the Simpson in July last year. We left the van at Broken Hill CP. We headed west out through Yunta, then turned north.

We travelled the Simpson west to east and came back to Broken Hill via Tibaburra and Milparinka.

We then had a few lay days in BH before returning home (to Bathurst).

If you are coming through Adelaide then stop in at Bendleby Ranges near Orroroo, then head up to Marree and leave your van there, go up the Birdsville or Oodnadatta Track, do the Simpson and pick your van back up at Maree

cheers

thanks cookie. where at Marree can you leave a van in safety? johno I was there last year and camped at the back of the pub. Not sure if a van would be safe there. Is there a camping ground or some thing similar to unhitch a van for a few days?

Johno...there is a caravan park in Marree too, but TBH, I reckon the security at the pub is probably better. At least the area is properly fenced off at the pub.
