We were there a few years back, drove through town and headed towards LakeTorrens, plenty of room out there.

You could consider going out of town to a place called White
Dam, a few Kms out of town and
camp at or near "Bill's Pub". You'd be very much alone! We had a
shack a few doors south of there. Enjoy.
