I have been told by both the SA Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources, as
well as
Mount Dare Hotel, that the Pedirka Track is temporarily closed. This is the track from
Hamilton Station (North of
Oodnadatta) to Pedirka and on to
Dalhousie Springs. Apparently there are graders in there right now but recent road damage is not likely to be fixed for another two weeks or so.
For people travelling on this route at the end of May, the track should be wonderful - newly graded! But in the meantime it is closed to traffic.

I wonder what the road/track , between
Hamilton Station, and Dalhousie will be like after a grade. We did a large loop thru the Simpson last August, and that stretch was the worst we have travelled on in all our trips. Some sections looked like there was a
rock heap, and it had just been pushed roughly flat with a
grader, and they called it a track. Rocks varied from tennis ball sized, up to large footballs. Every now and then, it was hard to tell the track from the adjacent ground . But it was all worth it, when we got to Dalhousie.

A follow up. Several days ago we travelled from
Hamilton Station to Dalhousie on the Pedirka Track. It was in good nick overall, having been recently graded. There were several sandy patches but with hard bottoms underneath the sand drifts. We had no problems even though towing an offroad caravan.
