Can you drive the full length of the Old Setterlers Road from the Putty Rd to Wollombi.
I was going up the putty Rd last week and noticed the the National Sparks & Wild Fires have a sign up saying No Thru Rd.
Is it open or closed. Thinking of going up there for a day trip over Easter
Regards
Vince

Hi Vince,

We tried Old Setllers Road last October and it was well and truely closed at both ends.

The entry and exit pass through private property and the owners have closed off the access due to inconsiderate users not sticking to the trail and doing damage to the property.

The owner on the Putty Road end has apparently laid a spike strip across the trail on her property (or so, the fellow who owns the eastern end tells me).

Yengo National Park and Watagan State Forest are good alternatives.

Thanks Savvas. Did this trip years ago with the Army, but thought it would be great to try and recapture lost youth. May go west over the Easter weekend instead.

For up to date information on Settlers Road refer to the "Tracks, Closed Tracks" at http://FAQ.4wdNSW.org

Current status is that the Paynes Crossing access through private property remains closed. Entry is available from the Putty Road, but once you get near Wollombi at Paynes Crossing its a matter of tracking back to the Putty Road..

The 4WD NSW&ACT LandUse team have been working with NPWS to try to establish an alternative route via old snigging tracks, however, that has been unsuccessful. Together with NPWS, they are also pursuing negotiations with the land owners.
