French Island camping

Hi all,

I've heard (and read) different stories about French Island, but there's always room for more ;-) I'd like to ask those that camped there:

1) is the camp big? would I need to book ahead?
2) what facilities are there? I understand that they're *really* bad?
3) how much land can you cover by walking (pretty experienced) in 1 day? There's only 1 camp, so it won't be possible to stay at the other end of the island, right?
4) is it usually easy to get on the boat or is it better to come early to make sure that a seat is available?
5) any other tips/thoughts?
