I travelled from Neale Junction to Coober Pedy two weeks ago. Until then no rain of consequence had fallen
The road was corrugated in parts & overgrown in parts but nothing a well equiped 4wd can't cope with.
Be prepared for a few brush scrapes & you will be OK.
Enjoy it and don't forget your permits

Thanks Ross N - we will be leaving Melbourne on Monday I believe that part of the road is the worst. We've read that the WA side has been graded. Something to look forward to. We only got 3 days in last time we tried to cross the AB before we had to turn around and head back into CP - the sand got too deep for our BMW R90/6 motorbike & side car to get through - only one wheel drive!! We will be trying again in luxury this time in our 4x4 Toyota Hilux :-) Vicky W1
