Hey all,
Planning to get away for a weekend trip (3rd July) and looking for an area to
camp right on the banks of a river. We'd also be taking kayaks with us so somewhere good to cater for those as
well.
What would you say are the best
places within a 3hr drive of
Perth for a trip like that. Somewhere that isn't a caravan site as we will be in tents and don't want to be surrounded by vans.
Something that looks like this would be ideal:

Many thanks for any suggestions

Hello
You could head down to the
Blackwood River and
camp at Sues
Bridge (along Sues Road) or at bush camps along the river to the east and west. Probably scrapes into the 3 hr limit from
Perth (depending if you're north or south).
On the Blackwood
Blackwood River
You better hope it warms up - freezing down here at the moment. Bring your wooly underpants.
Cheers

Hey Greg,
That looks like a great little spot. Which one is that on your map?
I'm coming from just north of
Perth so yeah its a fair distance as im guessing its going to be an early Saturday morning departure and back on Sunday late afternoon.
Thanks

North side of river - first one on left (after Sues
Bridge campsite that is) I think. Turn west down Denny Road before
bridge.

Have just checked my records
Turn off Denny Road to south at 347954 mE 6228831mN
About 1100 m down this track (+/- 50 metres or so) take track to left
The photo was taken at ~ 347798 mE 6227847 mN (but closer to river).
(Coords MGA Zone 50/UTM GDA94)
Blackwood River just north of Rocky Island

...North of
Perth there is the Moore River. You may have to stay at the Caravan Park though. I am not aware of any bush camps near mouth (there was one on
Lancelin Road where it crosses river but think its just an over nighter??).
Moore River
Cheers

Yeah been there a few times now. But dont know of any of the sites where you can
camp on the waters edge and put the kayaks in without driving somewhere or walking down big steps.

There is also Alexander
Bridge, near Sue's
Bridge , a large
camp ground with plenty of good sites, and if your lucky, right on the river.
Also as
well a great isolated
camp spot on the North Road ( still on the
Blackwood River ) that's accessed from WarnerGlen Road that would be ideal for tenting.
Cross the causeway and there you are ( both sides of the road (?).)
( I put road? because it's not suited for anything less than a full off road van when we were there earlier in the year )

?
Lake Leschenaultia at Chidlow. Pretty sure you can
camp there and walk to the water a few metres away. Not sure how much water/river available to kayak in at this time of year though. There is national park camping on the conservation reserve at Leschenault just north of Bunbury. You could even 4wd further down towards the "cut" and
camp close to there and put the yaks in and paddle over the estuary and up the Collie River. doc.

Hi mants,
ElQuestro sounds and looks good.
your planning a winter trip...
- most similar to this that's in
perth area 3-4 hr trip...: agree with what's been said .
lake leschenaultia, moore rvr ( no
bush camping I am fairly sure),
Waroona dam- reopened to
recreation now, upper swan/avon valley , Dewars pool, Drummonds,
Noble falls, Yalgorup Nat Park (
check this as day visits I think) , Lane pool, serpentine rvr,
lake brockman bush camp ( near yarloop) , a little further south-
wellington dam (
Honeymoon pool) .
And yes- its winter so good luck in the SW in tents!- ground temp about zero.
check camps 7 book, nat parks or tourist bureau for more info.
MG.
