An old favourite for a stop over. Seems to have disappeared- no phone or internet response. Anyone know the story?

I am based in Darwin for work and interestingly I overheard a conversation between two of my workmates this morning discussing this very subject. Seems that the White Gums is now private accommodation. This may be unconfirmed as both of these people used to stay there on working trips but have not been there for some time.

I have been past it a few times over the past several years and it is definitely closed to the general public. Pity really, Sunday soup and damper in the winter was always a treat.

New owners turned the White Gums Motel into private accomodation a year or so ago, use to stay there on days off from Mt Dare.

Yes, it is still present on some of the booking sites etc. but it is clearly no longer. It is a shame - it was good value and in a good location. Does anyone have a recommendation for something similar in Alice ie reasonable price, reasonably central, secure and with kitchenette facilities?
Thanks,
Nats.

Last time there w stayed at the Swagmans Rest. Nice big fence to keep the whatsits out and close to town. Clean, comfortable, warm and a good shower. Nothing special and not a lot of room for caravans. We only had a small T-van and it was fine.
