Hi Fellow travellers - We are due to try the
Paynes Find /
Sandstone road, (in sturdy 4WD's) and then
Sandstone /
Wiluna Road at the beginning of August. Watching the weather - I hope (with little/no more rain) it will be open (as the Sandstone/
Wiluna road is currently closed according to
Wiluna Shire)
What I'm interested in has any one done this recently - and what sort of road conditions, hence travel time for the two legs would/should I expect?
Thanks in advance!!
David

Hi David. Came
home via the
wiluna sandstone road from the canning after our
carnarvon ranges trip july last year. Very good sand dirt road and no probs sitting on 100klms per hour most of it if you want. We sat on on 90klms per hour not towing and have found most roads like that around the state are in very good nick. I doubt conditions would change a lot year to year.
Cheers Graeme.

Doesn't get a lot of traffic due to
Sandstone- MtMagnet being sealed though a good run

Hi David,
I travelled the
Paynes Find /
Sandstone road today and the lower
Sandstone Wiluna Sandstone Road today and yesterday. The upper road was closed yesterday so that's why I took lower.
Roads were good - occasional bumps where there were wash outs nothing too serious.
I travelled only 70 kph as had bad tyres after a month in the bush but you could go faster if you want.
Plenty of roos around morning and evening.
Grabbed a pie from Lady Di for Brunch this morning - worth a taste.
Cheers
Alan

Hi, thanks for that, I'm a bit confused, upper and lower?
Can you still get from
Sandstone to
Wiluna direct, or do you have to go back out to either the main highways? (Ie up via
Meekatharra, or Leinster, or do you mean the lower road to mean via Yeelirri?
I don't understand why the
Sandstone Wiluna road would be closed?, hasn't been much rain in weeks, still damaged I guess?
Cheers
David

Sorry should have been more clear. The actual SW road was closed at the north end. I went through Yeelirri and Booylgoo Spring Road. I'm not sure why the road is closed, there was no sign of water the way I went and it's not to far from the closed road.
Cheers
Alan
