Hi
This is our first hard floor camper and omg the bed is killing me the mattress is a queen 100mm foam rubber. Happy with the rest of it so far although it does seem a bit complicated to set up. Any review on the trailer or suggestions what to do with the mattress to make it more comfortable would be great.
Thanks.

A 100mm foam mattress would be pretty ordinary as you've found out, Di. I put a 150mm one in our slide-on camper, and even it can compress quite a bit if you sleep in one position for some hours. Upgrade to a thicker one might be the only alternative, unless you could add some padding, like another 50-75mm of foam, available from Clark Rubber?

There's a mob in Clontarf(Qld) that make inner springs for 'vans, campers etc, of any size.

Hi Di ,We used an eggshell type cover on our old camper mattress ,plus used a woollen underlay, made a lot of difference .Our new MDC is coil spring ,which is good but we have added the eggshell and woollen underlay as well and it is so nice .
Cheers

They are called Made to Measure mattresses and are at 57 Grice St Clontarf. We had a nice innerspring one made with a bolster to extend it . Cost $900 in 2008

G'day Mate.

I had the same problem with my Trayon camper. I put a Froli under matters spring system in under the existing matters and it was the best thing I ever did. Not cheep but was worth every cent.

Another vote for the Froli - we put the Froli system under our foam mattress and its fantastic. Been going 3+ years and still fine.

A good night's sleep is essential whatever form of camping you do.

Cheers, Geoff

G'day Di
We spent $160 on a memory foam fitted overlay... Makes a big difference, cooler in summer, and warmer in winter.. Nice n cosy.. Odog

Thanks for all your responses. We asked the dealer when we bought it to put a inner spring mattress in it and he said they were no good. We haven't got the room to go much bigger. The camper is a Mars Extremo for the price we paid I expected a more comfortable mattress. Trouble is, you don't know what the mattress is like until you sleep on it.

We did the same with an $160 memory foam from Big W, plus a woollen overlay. Nearly more comfortable than the $3000 mattress at home.

I'm going to try the egg crate mattress first, we simply can't afford to have one custom made for it.

The egg crate mattress overlay is really good, you will be pleasantly surprised at the difference it makes and it's very reasonably priced. We had the same problem and this fixed it!

I tried to get the egg crate thingy, but they were out of stock for the size we wanted, so went for the 4cm memory foam and woollen overlay. Very happy, but would still have liked to try the egg crate.

Di, I simply put 4 of those "jigsaw" interlocking mats (cheap, from boating/camping stores) under the mattress, (hip-to-shoulder - the legs don't need it). A vast improvement - and I am 120kilos.
