Carpentaria Hwy Vs Tablelands Hwy to C.Crawford

Can anybody give an insight as to travelling each route. I'll be towing a boat to Borroloola later in the year, and found a section of the Tablelands Hwy to be quite rough and undulating, and would consider the Carpentaria as an alternative if it was a little more even.
From Adelaide it will be further to drive, but may be a better choice.
I would appreciate any comments.
Thanks in advance,
Bob

Bob,
yep the Carpentaria is better than the Tablelands so if you want a smoother ride it is the go. Just don't get waylaid at the Heartbreak pub LOL.

What Slow said, Bob.

There's less than 80 clicks difference in the 2 routes, so up the Stuart would have to beat the trip up the Tableland. Mostly narrow, and as you say, a bit ordinary up towards Balbarini.

Reckon you'd make up time going up the Stuart.........'n there's more road houses too.

I also agree with bob I tow a boat to Borroloola each year from vic and have tried both ways and the extra distance is not a problem as the road is so much better and the " beef road " can get very rough regards mazzy1

Thank you all.
It had crossed our minds that the distance would be compensated for by better conditions, so I guess that will be our route.

Cheers and thanks,
Bob

I have done both towing a van and solo. Not enough difference to matter, both single lane. Easy drive. Why not go in one way and out the other. You will have no probs. carry a puncture kit or extra spare for the trailer
