Hi all, new to the forum.

Worked in Gove during the late 70's early 80's and would like to go back and have a look see. Planning on driving in next July / August (2016) and spending a week. I have been told a lot of work has been done on the road and would like to confirm if this is the case. Could be up to five in the convoy. I'll be in a 2014 Dmax SX Space Cab towing a Aussie Swag Ultra D. Any info on the do's and dont's would be appreciated.

Regards
Geoff

The Goyder River has a new bridge. Also the Wilton had one ten years ago (at least). Road will most likely be corrugated and dusty at that time.

Make sure you get your permits from Northern Land council and don't stop on way in with grog.

Road will be a lot better since you last drove it. Town will have changed a bit too.

cheers

Forgot to mention that the land council will also quiz you about your camper trailer and want to know where you are going to set it up. The walkabout pub has grassed area out back for them.

Cheers for that, just another quick question? If we leave Katherine early morning should it be possible to reach Gove by late afternoon and what sort traffic uses the road now, trucks, road trains?

I used to take anywhere from 7.5 hours to 10 hours. You will do it in a day no worries. Just be careful, if leaving Katherine early , of wallabies up until Barunga. Road mainly used by community people going between stations, locals from Gove heading out/in for holidays. Possibly road trains. Just don't drive fast and put tyres to a lower pressure. IMPORTANT...KEEP TO LEFT ON CORNERS..plenty of go fast idiots at times.

Enjoy the drive..it is no dramas if taken steady. With the trailer I reckon 10 hours.

cheers
