Exmouth Trip in D22

HI Rodney,
where are you coming from and how long are you going to be travelling for, are you crossing remote areas, and how old is your vehicle and what kind of condition is it in just a bit more info is require before anyone can answer that question.

Going for 2 weeks, 2014 model, leave end of August.

If you get the car checked before you leave you'll be fine.

I am sure you know the best way way to ensure you will never need spares is to take them!

Given the age of the ute, the time of year and where you are going I am not sure I would bother.

It is not as if you are heading hundreds of km out in the desert in the middle of summer where the cooling system will be stressed.

In my travels on some remote roads and tracks in the company of others I have never seen a blown radiator hose or busted belt. I have a six year old Ranger with still the original hoses and belts in good condition but will probably look at replacing them as a precaution before the next big trip.


I expect some people will disagree ...

A good strategy is to replace all the belts and hoses if the vehicle is of reasonable age and keep the old ones as spares. This way you can be sure what you have to be the right ones. There are many variants of vehicles nowadays and often parts are not the same. Your car is quite new so I would just get it checked and do the usual look under the bonnet and vehicle each morning just to check for anything that looks amiss.

IF your vehicle is properly maintained, it is unlikely to be troubled in anyway by your intended cruise up there*. Over quite some years I've carried various 'just in case' spares (which all add up $$$) and they never came out of the box. I now carry a few light tools,
minimal heavier tools, a couple of filters, various tapes and cable ties.......and get on with it :-).
*what a region up there....you are in for a real treat.....have a great trip.

Yeah I am thinking of just taking spare coolant, oil, brake fluid etc just in case and then some tools. Thank you for all the help.
