Hi All,
Just seen the latest ad for the Adventra and I have to say it was optimistic at best!
It showed the vehicle towing a reasonable size boat through soft sand and then doing a surf launch of said boat. I suspect that this would be a tough assignment for any dedicated 4WD let alone a soft-roader. Most vehicles I know of have trouble getting though the soft stuff with all the wheels churning let alone dragging a thousand kilos hooked on the back.
Does anyone else think that advertising for some 4WD/AWD vehicles portrays an unrealistic image? The people in the car look so cool and calm and picture perfect!
I know they are trying to move cars but to me this creates unrealistic expectations that you can just rip out to the desert for a look see at the flowers and everything is rosy.
The Prado "The Ride" ads were not immune either, ploughing up and down hills and through creeks portraying the vehicle as a roller coaster hurtling though the roughest terrain.
Has anyone been sucked in by "the dream" only to hve the vehicle on the market 12 months later???
I am sure I will love my Prado and it will take me all the
places I want to go but I would hate to see people spend 10's of thousands of $$$$ on the wrong type of vehicle on the strength of some extremely staged publicity shots.

Not sure if it is the same ad but sounds similar, but looked like hard packed sand like Sellicks Beach or similar to me. But you are right, I wouldnt like to be using one for anything more than a rough gravel road, let alone a beach launch. Many ads on tv are very deceptive. I am sure youre Prado will do much more than most people are game to do with them.
Cheers Peter

What about the Toyota commercial with the 4wd swinging from end to end on the see saw on the edge of a
cliff.
Now im sure the car is quite capable of doing just that BUT why would ANYONE want to allow people who have NO idea, to see that commercial and believe they can go buy one and do it too, cause you all know that there are some that believe TV commercials to be factual right !
I just hope i find out where this man made see-saw IS, cause I'd just love to try it too. It looks man made to me ...but then again, if the commercial shows it on a
cliff, i guess its real.

I saw it also. No way I'd be taking that vehicle anywhere near salt water. What will they say when it starts rusting!

Come on, it does come with 235x45x28 tires on it pure road tires that you could race
bathurst on, just the thing for beach drivin, good pad of tread on the sand etc.
Reality in advertising?? That disappeared in about 1980, You dont watch much tele do ya steve! ;)

Hi StevenL
,
While having lunch at mungerannie last week a holden adventra pulled in and put 35 litres of fuel in I asume from
marree, and later that day it was in
birdsville and Ruth said it was the first one to hit town. He was heading to charters towers but to his credit he was packing a 2nd spare. He was running the original tyres , just as
well the track was in good nick.

Hmmm...
204km for 35 litres. A touch over 17 litres per 100km. Not too bad for a V8 I suppose.
Good luck to him. OK on the graded roads, that to me is the sort of terrain that this thing will just eat up. I would just hate to be in one if it got a bit rougher or a bit slippery.

You are a pain in
the neck Pesty, I got all excited when I saw this post and thought I could be the one to tell about the first Adventra - should have know you'd beat me to it, after all you are a big dobber.
Got a Holden Commodore here - wagon, done 450,000ks, maroon in colour and am happy to say that it went up and down BIG Red and all over it like a flea on a dog today. Yeah you better believe it - the owner is a rally driver and instructor and has done a lift on the
suspension, but it is still a Bommodore (sorry, typo there) - the people in 4bys who were at Big Red who couldn't get up and over are dying of shame.

Geez blokes ... don't know what you're all going on about.
I've seen all the adds and they were in COLOUR .. not black and white ... so they must be true.

Yeah ok guys, the adventura is probally not going to tow a boat up a cliff in sand, but Rug's A Million aren't actually giving you 75% off a genuine persain rug, Harvey Norman aren't cheap, Fords are crap, McDonalds isn't good for you and Kmarts stock take sale involves 1 pair of undies and a chinese branded TV with a scratch in it. If we you don't realise this by now then you are all suckers!
Do what we do at home and just hit the Mute button when the ads come on, it saves you a heap of frustration! You even get to have a conversation for 30 seconds before everyone turns back into a zombie!
