Gday. During July this year myself and a couple of friends are planning a trip to somwhere in this state to try our luck at Prospecting. Now we don't plan on making a fortune or even finding anything much but it's really to enjoy the trip doing something new. My question is can anyone tell me where we can go?. The Ideal place would be within 12 hours from Perth. So maybe Coolgardie or out Meekatharra or where can you tell me.
Tahnk you for your replies and hopefully someone can help me.

you need to be aware of where you can prospect legally this can be done using tengraph which will tell you which areas are free to be prospected on www.mpr.wa.gov.au/prodserv/remote/tengraph/index.html you also need a miners right which can be obtained for a nominal fee which can be obtained from the department of mineral petroliam resources 100 plain street perth. They should also have a free booklet entitled prospecting in western australia which would be of further assistance.

good point the Kal / Coolgardie area is probably more scenic anyway if the prospectings no good with many historical sites. Get the 4wd days in the goldfields booklet and/or the holland track/cave hill booklets for more info. btw the bush round here is fantastic with all the recent rain

G'day

If you go out Kalgoorlie/Coolgardie way, contact Placer Dome Pacific. They have the largest number of leases in the area and run some of the big mines (Kanowna Bell, Paddington etc) If you contact them and ask, they will give you a letter of permission to prospect on their leases.

Good luck.
