Has anyone ever had a problem with the 4 wheel drive system or know of a problem in the 97 model XLT. The problem i have is when i turn the wheel past about half lock, it feels as though the wheels are fighting each other causing clunks and so on. If anyone can help with this it would be appreciated.

Jason,I do not have any experience with this exact vehicle however it sounds a lot like your CV's have gone in the front. Does the noise happen in either left or right lock only or both?

Hello Jason, I have a 99 XLT which I "used" to use for 4WD trips and it just sat around. New battery cost me $205 so we use it once a week now. Looking at our next trip. Yours sounds like CVs.

Help is not what you need mate ! You need another car because you own the worst 4x4 ever to be registered in this country . Sell it , help yourself

Jason,
Thanx for you considered, informed opinion. I thought we had all agreed to drop the slagging. Maybe you can't read. Maybe you own the best 4WD in the world and maybe you could let us all know just how many Kms and trips you have done in an Explorer and how long you owned one for. And you've never had the CVs go on your best car in the world?
