Hi everyone

I'm hoping to call upon the vast amount of experience and knowledge that resides on this forum.

I'm planning a trip to Ayres Rock, via Lake Ayre and the Simpson Desert in mid June this year, travelling in company with 2 other vehicles both new 100 series V8 Landcruisers. My problem is, I'm in the unenviable position of having to choose which vehicle I will take? A new 100 series V8 Landcruiser Sahara which is pretty stock standard apart from a nudge bar and driving lights, or a new 79 series Landcruiser Trayback, ARB equipped, bar, winch, diff locks, suspension etc, pretty much an ARB wish list as far as options go.

Now I know the Sahara with its leather interior quietness etc is King of those long straight bituman sections and well graded dirt and the 79 is probably going to be more at home in the rougher sections, but what would you guys prefer to take?

Cheers
Jeff

Your key questions will need to be Fuel capacity and Load space. If the 79 has good fuel capacity I would take it, and also the desert is getting chopped up quick this year apparently due to morons that are unable to reduce tyre pressures and so the diff locks might be handy. I assume you are camping in tents so load space will not be a problem and you might need some room somewhere for some camp fire wood.
I envy the choices you have to make!!! LOL

Even I envy having those 2 to make a choice between. For me it would be a no-brainer.....the 79 would be the only way to go......OR you could trade both of them in and get a 4.2T/Di Patrol and Ultimate Camper and still have change left over. LOL

Take the 100, and do it in style, there is nowhere out there the 78 will go the 100 wont, and everyone will have interchangable spares, tyres etc, if all 3 vehicles the same.

Fuel capapcity of either shouldnt be an issue.

A wagon sure beats all your gear covered in dust when you want it on the back of the ute.......

I agree with Go-Offroad. Take the most comfortable one ie wagon. It'll go anywhere you want to without any hassles. Leave the truck at home and take it when you want to do something really rugged.

Thanks for all the help guys, looks like I may be taking both, my son looks like coming now and he'll drive the 79. We'll probably need it just to carry the extra fuel needed to get the cruises across the Simpson.

Cheers
