g'day all,
newby to the
forum with a simple problem,
I can't get transmission on my cb. Reception is okay, but when I push the transmit button I just get a tone back from the speaker. As you may be able to tell, I'm not fully conversant with the cb ops. cb has been working
well until this point.
I reckon it must be a fuse somewhere(?)
Any help appreciated,

I would suggest it is an aerial problem. Possibly not earthed properly or not wired up correctly or cut to the wrong length
I would NOT contniue to push the transmitt button until you have fixed it otherwise you will blow the transmit relay...this happens VERY quickly.
Get the areial checked from one end to the other to ensure it is wired correctly, has a good 'earth' with the vehicle. Also get it checked for SWR (Standing wave ratio) if the aerial is ok the SWR should be 1:1 ie all the signal goes up the aerial.

Check your power cable connections as I had the same problem just after instaling my tx3200. When you transmit the power required increases significantly & if you have a bad connection then this is when it becomes a problem. Cheers

Hmmm I have a tx4400 so it's not quite the same as the 3200. When I get that tone it is when I have it on one of the programable channels where you are not allowed to transmit. I would guess that you have a feature enabled that doesn't allow you to transmit hence the tone informing you of this. I would say the antenna is ok because you wouldn't usually be able to recieve without the antenna. The only fuse is for the power and the unit is powering up!

DId you solder the silver coupling onto the cable yourself .(the bit that joins onto the cable and screws onto the back of the
uhf radio) . I bet its not done properly and is shorting out .

I had the same problem with my tx3200 and it turned out to be the external speaker feeding back through the mic. Have you recently installed an external speaker?
It won't be the fuse as it would not work at all if that was blown.
Tony.

I Know you can disable functions on this model and it sounds if the tx is disabled. Try switching radio off then hold down the tx button while switching back on.
Let me know if this fixes the problem.

Checked this Tx function at work and no go. Agree with Jeff M you may be locked on scan mode.
Is Scan shown on the screen?
Will the scan button take it off? This function CAN be locked.

If all the suggestions above don't succeed, try replacing the mic.

Sounds to me like you are trying to transmit while the unit is scanning channels. Try turning the scan of and try again.

Ta Jeff,
worked through all replies, and got to point of swapping mike.
off to local (pt. macquarie) comms dealer, who ran tests. "you can't transmit while on scan" always used to was my reply. "must have been programmed at factory for Group Scan"
i don't know why all of a sudden i've got to hit Priority button to talk, before during scan mode i could just push Tx button.
THANKS to all replies,
forum was most helpful.
Happy travels
