Derek
Some years back I posted a query on this site as to why my 80 series made a wind turbulence noise in the vicinity of the D.S mirrror from about 60 kph onwards, that was quite loud and annoying. No one could help me and a few said they had the same problem. The car has never been damaged and the LH mirror which appears to be a perfect mirrored reproduction of the D.S one, makes no noise at all. After years of trial and error, I have found that if you fit a piece of reinforced tape (about 30mm x 30mm) at the base of the mirror, in the vee where the mirror body attaches to the door, the noise is stopped. It sounds like a botch but it has totally stopped the noise in my car. As to why one side does it and the other doesn't - who knows. Hope this helps someone. Derek.

I use slim line weathershields which does the trick. One can also cut down standard shields if you have a bandsaw
