Willem
I can confirn that I am
home again and arrived here around lunch time today with no passenger. (Mr Des Lexik shall pay for his sins)
Logged up 2975km in a week and drove over trillions of corrugations, hundreds of dips and floodways, a hell of a lot of cattle grids and hit a few too many washouts and plowed through endless bulldust patches. Had the starter motor solonoid jam on, burnt part of the loom, the gearbox breather hose came loose and it was a two hour job to do a 5 second repair, the waterpump by-pass hose sprung a leak( the only one I did bot have a spare of) but with sikaflex and silicon it got me
home, one
puncture....gidgee stake, got 15/100 with a trong tail wind and 25/100 with ahead wind. dearest fuel was
Innamincka at $1.19/l
Traveled the following
places:
Marree,
Muloorina Station,
Lake Eyre,
Birdsville Track,
Birdsville, Big Red,
Betoota road,
Haddon Corner,
Innamincka,
Bore Track,
Cameron Corner,
Sturt National Park,
Fort Grey Camp ground, Middle Road Sturt NP,
Tibooburra,
Milparinka,
White Cliffs,
Mutawintji NP,
Broken Hill..............
Walker Crossing is closed until further notice.
Coongie Lakes track is open up to Kudriemitchi but no further until flood waters recede.
Happy to answer any questions you might have.
Cheers

Willem,
Glad that you're back safe'n'sound...we've missed your candid comments.
Sorry that the red bus had a few problems, but I guess when I get that old I'll have bits falling off me and leaky things hanging out all over the place too. LOL.
Now you can re-commence the search for a suitable replacement for the ol' girl.

Roachie,
I wonder what will be left of your GU when it is 26 years old!!!!
Sometimes I do think about power steering, aircon and soft modular seats, and the smell of new plastic.......but then it is more fun living on the edge pitting your wits against the elements.
Cheers

G'day Willem,
I've got a question for you - nothing to do with your recent
Birdsville run.
Back in '99 the local newspaper (NT News) released a 4 copy collectors edition to commemorate 100 years in the Territory. I've got a set of these that I would like to pass on to a 'good
home' and I thought you may be interested, being an 'old Territorian' - please don't take offence at the old bit - you're only a few years up on me. I think you would find these papers good reading.
If you are interested, you can contact me at: jadix at ozemail dot com dot au.
