All the 4x4 running gear is Dana spicer, similar to jeep, may have been exactly the same as some jeeps and other American 4x4's of the same era. I drove a brand new one in 73 (vague memories) it was a bit like an early 4x4 hilux to drive.

In the early 70's Jeep were using Ford engines & I believe Ford did a bit of contra deal to use the Jeep 4X4 system in the XY Ute.

The bloke buying it might have to drive it from townsville to pucapunal next year. I wounder what it would be like for that. anyway he plans to do a restro job on it so it should be something diferent.

You can have a look at the Ford owners web sites .I have seen info regarding them there although I dont remember exactly where.
Most of them went Queensland and NSW.
Peter 2 is correct about the running gear,it was all quality and the best at the time.
I heard the body wasnt up to the standard of the mechanicals leading to bent floors.
If your friend has one he would be better off doing a resto and retiring it from 4wd.
They sure wont make these again.
