I was Just wondering if anybody knew of an additive in which you can buy, and add to your diesel fuel, for when you go to the snow in stead of buying alpine diesel?

There is a couple I believe.
Our Tech Officer at the Toyota Landcruiser club spoke of it last meeting.
Buggered if I can remember makes models or brands????????
Must be Altzheimers (spelling) catching up with me.
I will have to ask next meeting if nobody else can tell us.

Agree with Truckster - but if you have a load of diesel onboard and are worried about it - just add a couple of cups of kerosene - has a similar effect.

And I'd agree with Patrol22,
Shell advised its customers(in west Qld), some years ago, to use 10% kero, if having waxing problems.
Hooroo...

The following reasons are worth consididering as a positive thing about adding the additive to your fuel before you go.
1. Able to ensure potentially better quality fuel by purchaing from a large retailer with bigger volume turnover as opposed to small country servo who may hold fuel in tanks for longer period. (Potential Higher risk of contamination)
2. Metro fuel generally cheaper per litre than country. Additive is cheaper per litre than premixed alpine fuel.
3. By adding the additive in
Melbourne and allowing it to move through the fuel system it will coat all the inside workings of the fuel system allowing proper protection of the system before it gets to colder climate.
4. By carrying the additive you can ensure that you are in a position to add to any further fuel that you may purchase during trip. Negates having to locate retailer who stocks Alpine Mix.
5. Advice that we have received from Toyota Landcruiser Club was to purchase product additive from Toyota Dealer as it was the better quaility stuff.
6. Buggered if we can remember the name of the stuff. Ask Toyota dealer.

P.S. She's the one who could remember all the stuff I couldn't.

Hi Guys & MG
I think it was the "Toyota Diesel Fuel Conditioner" don't know how good it is as a substitute for the Alpine fuel.
At
Mansfield ( Vic) I think its always Alpine summer & winter but I stand to be ccorrected.
Cheers

Yup, the
Mansfield servos do..
The turn over at the BP there is VERY VERY high, and the fuel would be 'fresh' nearly always..
Will find out this weekend. :)

Nup Truckster. The BP in
MAnsfield only carried Alpine diesel til November last year. I went to fill up last week and they have told me that they are currently not carrying it. I fuel here all year (weekly) and the only station to carry it all year is the
Shell. Even once last year the
Shell got a batch with no additive from the supplier and about 40 local cars got caught out with frozen fuel systems. You gotta ask them before putting it in in
Mansfield.
Turnover of fuel here is pretty high all year but you still gotta ask them.

My son works at a deisel injection place and he tells me that they have been advised that the winter deisel (West Vic) will only be 2degrees C this winter, not the lower temp they have had before.
Why, dunno, may cost but his boss is expecting to increase his turnover from this as we get minus temps in winter so keep the wagon under cover if possible or cover it up.
